Postdoctoral Position available starting 2002. The project deals with geomicrobiology in relation to exobiology, such as mineralogical signatures of extraterrestrial life. Biomineral precipitates will be examined, as well as the proteins secreted by algal and other marine organisms. Therefore, experience with cell culture techniques (for mineralizing algae) is desired, as well as some crystallographic and/or protein characterization skills. The funding is from a NASA-ROSS grant: in collaboration with Dr. Lisa Robbins- Chief Scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey; Center for Coastal Geology and Regional Marine Studies.
